The National Association of the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) has long held the position that children thrive when in mixed age groups. Family child care can consist of infants, toddlers, preschoolers and school age children. This allows for positive interactions a child may not encounter elsewhere. The "baby" at home can be the "big sister" at daycare. An only child can form close sibling-like relationships.
A child in a home care setting can experience a range of activities like singing, playing instruments, painting, play dough, dress-up, blocks, riding bikes, and putting on puppet shows. He could also relax in a comfy place with books and a cuddle toy.
Children need opportunities to explore and learn. They need a healthy safe environment. They need an adult to consistently offer care, support and love. All this can be found at a family child care.
